  1. It depends on how you say it, but simply asking if they speak English is not an assumption that they do so. English is an incredibly global language with upwards of 1.5 billion speakers, so the odds are that they can probably speak English better than you can speak their language. Because if asking to speak English screams American then so does stumbling over foreign phrases…

  2. Most of these could equally apply to Brits abroad, with exception of the personal space on trains one, which we’re all pretty used to.
